[ 6. You open a door and find yourself at a funeral service of the type you would expect to see in the world you came from. There are shadowy figures that look like the silhouettes of people who care about you, both from your world and from your previous game. They are mourning in whichever way is most natural to them, their mannerisms just the way you remember. You can't hear them speak, but you feel their grief. When the ceremony comes to an end, you realize they are mourning you. Upon making that realization you find yourself back in the hall, disoriented and with a deep sense of loss. Only four minutes have passed.

mikazuki enters the door with tsurumaru, expression curious as the room shifts. slowly the room begins to fill with shadowy figures of their comrades. the genjis occupy the space in the room, higekiri's normally vacant expression serious as hizamaru's shoulders tremble under the weight of his sadness - only occasionally does he lift his arm to wipe at his eyes with his sleeve.
kashuu kiyomitsu is similarly nearby, his fingers curling into the palms of his hands, painted nails against pale skin. the rest of the shinsengumi swords linger nearby, their heads bowed. the gou swords in different states of disarray, all of their eyes focused forward.
by the arrangement of flowers and the picture frame that still remains blurred in the distance, four others figures have changed their normally colorful robes for black.
for a moment, mikazuki remains at the entrance - but not before long he laughs, as one does at funerals.]

[and he walks forward, humming a song at a slow cadence under his breath]
he waits for mikazuki to step inside before trailing in after. it's a little funny, because tsurumaru has not met these swords-- or some of them, at least. he can spot yasusada the most easily, after spending time with him at the camp, and he recognizes ones he saw on the screen there too. it's really not that difficult to place the others though. ]

[ it comes out a little more quietly than he meant it to. ]
as they approach the front of the room, all the sanjous sit dressed in black. isikirimaru wears a look of deep mourning, facing yet another prayer he cannot answer. imanotsurugi is tucked into iwatooshi's side, crying openly - though iwatooshi himself has tears running down his cheeks in rivulets. kogitsunemaru remains still, eyes fixed upon the frame.
now that they are closer, the flower arrangements prominently feature lotuses.
mikazuki does not bother to hide his open laugh, louder still this time - though no one hears him. none but tsurumaru.]
Ha ha ha... [a pause. then softly:] I think I would prefer if they were all drinking.
Perhaps they will later? A setting like this sort of sets it up for you to cry.
[ his gaze only stays on the sanjous for a few seconds before it settles on mikazuki. it feels a little mean to not care about their grief too much in this moment, but he knows they aren't actually real.
if there's one person's reaction he wants to see, it's mikazuki's. ]
[as the ceremony draws to its end, whatever blur on the picture frame disappears, leaving only the image of mikazuki munechika. it had been obvious from their entrance, he thinks. at the end of his days, only his comrades would be alive to remember him. all those he had met would have met their end long before he -
as it always has been.
there is a flash of emotion on his face as he gazes upon it, takes in every detail and every evidence before him that his life may be worth mourning.
he feels a sense of inevitability - of resignation.
if this is what it takes... if this is what it takes....]
[ he'll take the flower, spinning the stem between his fingers. if this isn't real, he notes that the lotus likely won't be leaving the room. and he also notes that he'd be glad for that, actually.
it's odd, to discuss the inevitable about something-- someone-- that feels so eternal. even when you know that they're not. ]

mikazuki lets his arm fall around tsuru's middle, encouraging him closer in this hallway. trial is going to be interesting when they're actually in public]
